Setbacks for PlayStation's Canadian Multiplayer Game as Studio Leader Exits
PlayStation's upcoming multiplayer game is facing challenges.
Jade Raymond, a well-known producer in the gaming world, has left Haven Studios in Montreal. This studio is responsible for the competitive heist shooter Fairgame$. The news was first shared by a major news outlet and later confirmed by PlayStation, which owns Haven. Although the game was announced two years ago, it has not been shown much since its initial reveal.
The reason for Raymond's departure remains unclear. However, reports suggest that it came after an external test of Fairgame$. Some team members at Haven have raised concerns about how the game is being received and its development status. Initially set to launch in fall 2025, the release date has now shifted to spring 2026.
A Look at Haven Studios
Haven Studios stands out as PlayStation's only studio located in Canada and was acquired back in 2022. Jade Raymond plays a significant role in gaming history; she helped create popular titles like Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs. She also founded Ubisoft Toronto and EA Motive before leading Google Stadia's first-party games until its closure. Afterward, she started Haven with former colleagues.
The Challenges of Live-Service Games
Fairgame$ is part of PlayStation's larger strategy to enter the live-service multiplayer market but faces many hurdles. In 2022, PlayStation aimed to launch over ten live-service games by 2026; however, many have struggled to find success. While Helldivers 2 managed to do well, other projects like The Last of Us‘s multiplayer mode and new entries like Twisted Metal, along with another title called Concord, were either canceled or did not perform as expected.
