There is a stereotype when it comes to children’s movies. Most of them do not necessarily have to be great, but only serve as a good babysitter. However, that is not the case with Wreck-It Ralph. It is a refreshing film with wonderful visuals and clever writing. Aside from that, it is also a great treat for game enthusiasts because of the numerous classic games associated with it.
Game World Comes Together
A 2012 animated film by Disney Animation Studios, the story presented a gradual change to the arcade world with its 30-year history. Starting the show with classic games such as Pac-Man, Street Fighter, and many more, its pixelated visuals bring nostalgic memories for viewers.

Here, he meets Dr. Robotnik (Sonic The Hedgehog), Kano (Mortal Combat), Bowser/King Koopa (Mario), Clyde (ghost from Pac-Man), M. Bison and Zangief (Street Fighter), and even Zombie (House of the Dead). This certain game reference in just one scene is seemingly enjoyable to watch, and it brings back memories of the good-old gaming world.
These characters are just from that particular scene, and Disney did more than just that. Throughout the story, Ralph goes through different games until he comes to Sugar Rush. Here, he starts a friendship with Vanellope von Schweetz who is thought to be a glitch.
Disney Animation added numerous video game characters, and they placed them into the path where the main cast members are to pass. Vanellope von Schweetz’s Sugar Rush game is like a visual masterpiece that can be associated with Dr. Seuss, but with a lot of different game personalities to identify each “level.” Some other familiar video games mentioned are Q*bert and Frogger. There are a lot of associations, mentions, and allusions in the story, just like Lara Croft as Wreck-It Ralph’s false name to pass Surge Protector, Aerith written as a graffiti, and even GLaDOs.
Nostalgia, Trials, and Happy Endings
With the numerous video games seen in this film, the overall appeal of the movie serves as a sure eye candy for its unbelievable arcade game details. If you look closer at various scenes, the animators where able to add even the tiniest detail just to showcase the long history of video games.
