Is Aniimo a Gacha Game? Monetization Fully Explained

Is Aniimo a Gacha Game? Monetization Fully Explained

The short answer is no. Aniimo is not a traditional gacha game. Catching creatures is a core gameplay mechanic, not a paid pull system. That said, “free to play” and “no gacha” are two different things, and neither one means there's nothing to spend money on. Here's exactly what costs money, what doesn't, and what developer Pawprint Interactive Entertainment has confirmed ahead of the Q3 2026 launch.

How Aniimo Creature Capture Actually Works

In most gacha games, getting the characters or units you want means spending premium currency on randomized banners and hoping RNG goes your way. Aniimo works differently.

You catch Aniimo by finding them in the open world across the continent of Idyll. There's no banner. There's no pull system. The creatures exist in the game world, and you catch them through gameplay, the same way you'd catch creatures in Pokemon or Palworld.

The Twining system, which lets you physically merge with your caught Aniimo for combat and traversal, is also unlocked through regular gameplay. You catch a creature, add it to your party, and Twine with it in the field. No premium currency involved.

Pawprint has explicitly stated that capturing creatures will not be locked behind a gacha system.

What Does Cost Money in Aniimo?

Full shop details haven't been released yet, but the pre-registration milestone rewards give us a pretty clear picture of where Pawprint is heading.

Cosmetics are the main monetization target. The milestone rewards include things like a limited avatar frame at 20 million registrations and a limited outfit at 30 million. These are cosmetic items that change how your character or creatures look. Nothing gameplay-altering.

Glimmer is Aniimo's premium currency, confirmed through the pre-registration system (10 million milestone = Glimmer x200). Exact uses haven't been published yet, but the context points strongly toward a cosmetic shop.

What's still unknown: Whether any gameplay-relevant items like boosters, stamina refills, or crafting materials will show up in the shop. We'll update this article once the full shop is live at launch.

Why Some People Think Aniimo Is Gacha

Skepticism is reasonable here. A few things have fueled the concern.

First, Glimmer exists as a premium currency. Whenever a free-to-play game introduces premium currency before launch, players reasonably start asking what it buys and whether any of it affects progression.

Second, the publisher is FunPlus, which has shipped mobile titles with aggressive monetization in the past. Publisher track records do matter, even when developers say the right things.

NordVPN

Third, nobody has seen the complete shop yet. Aniimo hasn't launched, which means the full picture of what's for sale isn't available to anyone.

These are legitimate reasons to stay watchful. They're not the same as Aniimo being a gacha game right now, but they're worth keeping in mind once the game is live.

Genshin, Star Rail, and Wuthering Waves all use randomized banner pulls as their primary revenue model. Based on everything confirmed so far, Aniimo does not.

Our Take

Based on confirmed information, Aniimo looks more like Pokemon GO or Palworld than Genshin Impact in terms of monetization philosophy. The core loop of exploring, catching, and Twining with creatures is free. The business model appears to focus on cosmetics.

That doesn't mean you should spend without thinking. A few things are worth watching when the game actually launches:

  • Does the shop introduce stamina or energy systems? If progression gets locked behind refillable timers that cost Glimmer, that's a meaningful change to the picture.
  • Are any Aniimo or gameplay items purchasable? Even indirect advantages like materials that make catching faster would be worth flagging.
  • How aggressively does Pawprint push limited-time cosmetic events? FOMO-based cosmetic sales are extremely common in the genre.

We'll publish a full monetization breakdown once the game is live and the shop is visible.
