The new slate follows the earlier HUAWEI MatePad 11.5, which brought a smaller canvas to the same product family last year.

PC-level WPS Office with AI assistance

The productivity story centers on a PC-level WPS Office suite with built in AI capabilities. According to the official announcement, the tools handle familiar office work with helpers that summarize lengthy PDFs, refine or shorten drafts through text optimization, turn ideas or source material into slide decks with PPT generation and convert raw data into visual charts in Excel. Cerezo said these tools help professionals who juggle multiple responsibilities move time away from repetitive tasks and information processing toward strategic execution.

Before the switch, his main frustration was balancing portability against productivity. With the MatePad Air, he gets a lighter setup that still covers documents, presentations, meetings and content work, so he can stay productive while carrying less.

AI notes, transcription and everyday capture

The HUAWEI Notes app adds a second layer of AI assistance focused on capture. Its speech to text function converts recorded discussions into written text, which Cerezo uses to hold on to ideas from meetings and brainstorming sessions. The app also solves math equations on the spot, removing the need to jump to a calculator or a separate app.

For Leetong, the appeal is simpler. She manages a business on top of content creation, and she said the Notes app gets time consuming daily tasks done quickly. Both early users describe HUAWEI practical approach to AI as genuinely useful rather than decorative, with Leetong noting that it saves her real time on repetitive work.

A 4-in-1 workstation with keyboard, mouse and stylus

With its NearLink accessory bundle, the MatePad Air converts into a portable workstation. The setup combines the HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard, a mouse and the M-Pencil Pro for writing, editing documents, preparing presentations and managing everyday tasks. The keyboard supports desktop level shortcut combinations and two viewing angles with a low latency feel, and at 308g it keeps the full setup at around 870g, which is still under 1kg.

Cerezo said the keyboard gives the setup a PC like workflow without the added bulk, while Leetong pointed to the compact footprint. The M-Pencil Pro offers more than 16,000 pressure sensitivity levels with specialized tips for detailed creative work and everyday note taking. Leetong, who sketches booth mock ups for pop up events and draws instructions for her staff, called the stylus one of her favorite parts of the package. An Air Mouse function in the stylus adds presentation control, with remote PPT page turns and a laser pointer for meetings and classes.

All of that hardware sits inside a body that measures 5.3mm thin and weighs 509g. HUAWEI says the slim frame still resists bending, which matters for a device meant to travel between meetings, cafes, shoots and events. Cerezo called portability one of the immediate advantages, since the tablet is easy to carry across changing workspaces through the day.

The launch color is Airy Blue with a Pearlescent Sheen applied through an e-coating process.
