Season 3 Story: The Secret of Roscaelifer

We’ve been following Zenless Zone Zero’s story arcs closely, and Version 3.0 kicks off Season 3 with a bang. The Proxies face a new crisis when a mysterious Ether energy inside them spirals out of control. The Mayor of New Eridu invites them to Roscaelifer, a restricted zone that floats above the city like a forbidden paradise.

Here, Velina, the Administrative Director of the External Strategy Department (ESD), guides the Proxies as special transfer students. They uncover the truth behind a hidden power called Pyrois—which links directly to the new Pyrois Agent for progressing the main story. Meanwhile, Bangboo self-destruction incidents spread fear across the island. The Energy Hub’s Hollows show strange fluctuations, and a first-generation Void Hunter named Remielle Dan flickers back into view. “It’s like the city itself is hiding something,” one developer hinted during a recent press demo.

New Agents: Velina and Norma

Velina is Zenless Zone Zero’s first Wind-attribute Anomaly Agent. Her kit focuses on building Wind Anomaly on enemies, pushing them into the Windswept state. If you combine Windswept with another Attribute Anomaly, you trigger a Vortex effect that deals area-of-effect damage of that second attribute to nearby foes. In teams with two or more Anomaly Agents—or Agents sharing the same attribute—Velina’s damage ramps up significantly. Based on our testing, she excels in squad compositions that stack multiple debuffs.

Norma takes the Stun role as the ESD’s Chief Technician. Her signature hat mechanic builds Preheated Chamber stacks even when she’s off-field. With enough stacks, she converts teammates’ Quick Assists into Chain Attacks. This creates extra damage windows for the whole squad. Both Agents return alongside their exclusive W-Engines in the banner rotation.

Roscaelifer isn’t just a pretty backdrop. The update adds several interactive landmarks:
Roarin’ Brekkies: A daily cookie shop that gives you a random buff each day.
Spotlight Theater: An alleyway venue where Bangboo perform in every role.
Sky Bus: A hidden route you unlock by summoning it at a specific in-game time.

Proxies can also access the Universal Terminal citywide. This lets you take control of surveillance cameras for first-person reconnaissance and scanning. You can pilot a drone alongside Eous for targeted operations. Inside the Scamall Hollow, you ride the Aerial Transit using Pyrois’s spatial movement abilities. If you hit a Singularity Leakage and get stuck in an overlapping dimension, the environment and puzzles shift unpredictably. You’ll need Pyrois’s power to fix the anomaly.

The new Interboo collection system logs every discovery you make across the island. It converts exploration progress into Polychromes and other rewards.

Permanent Game Modes: Bangbang! and Annihilation Simulacrum

Version 3.0 introduces two major permanent modes:
1. Bangbang! The Genius and the Miracle Chip: You nurture and command Collaboorator squads to repair the Central Computing Hub and complete chip research missions. Think of it as a resource management puzzle with cute Bangboo helpers.
2. Annihilation Simulacrum: A high-difficulty boss rush with no elemental weaknesses or resistances. It tests pure mechanical skill and precise execution. No shortcuts here.

Limited-time events will also drop after launch. Completing them yields a Tuning Calibrator, W-Engine, Polychromes, and new Drive Disc sets. Velina’s limited outfit, Shade of Leisure, goes on sale post-update.

Quality-of-Life Changes: Drive Disc Smart Discard and Visual Upgrades

We’ve all spent hours manually sifting through Drive Discs. Version 3.0 fixes that with a Smart Discard function. It lets you batch-process unwanted Drive Discs in one click. The Tuning interface now prioritizes active training plan sets.

On the PC side, players with ray-tracing-capable hardware can enable real-time global illumination. DLSS Super-Resolution and Frame Generation keep performance smooth. Protagonist outfit accessories—headwear, hair accessories, earrings, and glasses—become universal items that mix across all outfits starting in Version 3.0.

Free Rewards: Pyrois Agent and 1,600 Polychromes

Every Proxy gets Pyrois and a Season 3-themed outfit for free. Simply progress through the main story to claim them. In future versions, all of Pyrois Mindscapes and their exclusive W-Engine will also be free. On launch day, log in for 600 Polychromes. On July 4, the game’s second anniversary, claim another 1,000 Polychromes.
