Sony has announced that they will be launching an official PC adapter for the PlayStation VR2 on August 7th. This news comes shortly after a Korean filing confirmed the existence of the adapter and Sony's intentions to expand PS VR2 support to PC this year.
The PC adapter will allow players to access a wide range of VR games in Steam's library, such as Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 4 VR, VR Chat, and Phasmophobia. While some features like HDR, headset feedback, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback will not be available on PC, players can still enjoy 4K visuals, a 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, see-through view, foveated rendering, and 3D audio in supported games.
The adapter will be priced at $59.99 USD and will require a DisplayPort 1.4 cable (sold separately). Players will also need a Windows 10 or 11 64-bit operating system, an Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 processor, 8GB of RAM or more, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 or AMD Radeon RX 5500XT graphics card, and Bluetooth 4.0 or later.
To set up the adapter, players will need to connect the headset to their PC using the adapter and DisplayPort cable. They will then need to download the PlayStation VR2 and Steam VR apps from Steam to complete the setup.
Sony hopes that by expanding PS VR2 support to PC, they can attract more players and boost sales of the headset. In Canada, the PS VR2 is currently $120 off as part of PlayStation's Days of Play promotion until June 12th.
Overall, the launch of the PlayStation VR2 PC adapter opens up new possibilities for players to experience VR gaming on their PCs, offering a wider range of games and experiences beyond the PS5.
