Beside the Sonos Ace headphones, the audio company has also refreshed its entry-level portable speaker, the Sonos Roam.
The Roam was initially released in 2021 and while it received positive feedback, some customers had issues with its software and specifically the Bluetooth/power combo button. Fortunately, Sonos has addressed this concern by adding two buttons on the back for easier Bluetooth setup. While it is unclear if the overall connection software has been improved, it is likely that enhancements have been made given the release of the Move 2 and Ace models.
In addition to the button improvements, Sonos now allows users to set up the speaker right out of the box. Previously, pairing with the Sonos app on home Wi-Fi was necessary, but now the Roam can function as a Bluetooth speaker until the user decides to connect it to Wi-Fi.
Despite these changes, the speaker remains largely the same in terms of colors, speaker layout, and battery life. The CEO of Sonos mentioned to The Verge that the new Roam may have a slightly better battery life, although it does not seem significantly different from the original's 10 hours.
The Sonos Roam 2 will maintain the same price as the original Roam at $229 in Canada.
