Rogers has joined forces with the Government of Canada, Government of Ontario, and the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) to roll out 5G mobile services in Eastern Ontario. This collaboration has resulted in the introduction of forty-two new cell towers and enhancements to four existing sites in 21 communities across the region.
Residents in areas such as the City of Kawartha Lakes, Counties of Frontenac, Haliburton, Lanark, Lennox and Addington, Northumberland, Peterborough, Prince Edward, Leeds and Grenville, Prescott and Russell, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, Kingston, Gananoque, as well as various First Nations territories, can now experience the benefits of Rogers 5G on their devices.
Funding for this initiative stems from EORN’s Cell Gap Project, a $300 million partnership aimed at expanding cellular coverage in rural Eastern Ontario. The project has enabled Rogers to construct approximately 332 new telecommunication cell towers, comprising both new installations and co-located sites shared with other providers. With the completion of 309 site upgrades and the construction of 100 new towers, the telecom giant is paving the way for improved public safety and navigation in remote areas.
In a related development, Rogers previously announced the introduction of 5G in regions like Renfrew and Kingston in December. It remains unclear whether the latest expansion includes these locations or if the telecom is simply highlighting all newly equipped 5G sites under the project’s umbrella. This strategic alliance underscores the commitment to advancing connectivity and technological infrastructure in Eastern Ontario.
