The Pokemon Company has announced that Pokemon UNITE will end service on March 23, 2027 at 00:00 UTC, taking the free to play MOBA offline on both Nintendo Switch and mobile after nearly six years. The game launched on Switch on July 21, 2021 with mobile versions following that September, so the shutdown lands just short of its sixth anniversary. The official end of service notice thanks the many Trainers who have played since launch and promises special events until the final day. Developed with TiMi Studio Group, UNITE brought five against five team battles to Aeos Island with a simple hook of scoring goals, and it grew into one of the longer lived MOBA experiments on console and phones.
Gem sales stop now while balances stay live
The shutdown follows the standard staged playbook for closing live service games. Sales of Aeos Gems have been discontinued with immediate effect, so players can no longer buy the premium currency. Existing gem balances remain usable until the servers go dark, which gives holders more than a full year to spend what they already own. New UNITE Club memberships and automatic renewals are also suspended, while active memberships stay valid through their current billing cycles.
That ordering matters for anyone still playing. Premium currency in a closing game has no value after shutdown, so the months ahead are the time to spend down stockpiles on Unite licenses, Holowear and other catalog items rather than topping up. Players who were considering a membership should weigh the remaining calendar carefully, since renewals will not extend past the end of service.
The Aeos Crown 2027 becomes the last dance
Competitive UNITE will get a genuine sendoff. The previously announced Pokemon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 will proceed as scheduled, with regional qualifiers set to begin on December 5, 2026 and finals in Tokyo on March 20 and 21, 2027 carrying a prize pool of one million dollars. The finals land just two days before the servers close, which makes the Tokyo event the last top level UNITE competition ever staged. Coverage of the final competitive season frames the tournament as the closing chapter of the scene.
The farewell circuit caps a competitive run that once reached the Pokemon World Championships. UNITE was dropped from the 2027 World Championships program in July, and many fans read that decision as an early signal that the end was near. Reporting on the shutdown timeline notes the writing had been on the wall for months. Readers who follow team based multiplayer can also look at a fellow MOBA that is still adding heroes to its roster and another team based shooter pulling huge numbers in testing for a sense of where the genre is heading.
A Library feature will preserve player records
After March 23, 2027, players will no longer be able to log in or take part in battles. A new Library feature will let players who complete a required data download before the shutdown view certain records and in game content after service ends. Players who skip the download will lose access afterward, library data generally cannot be transferred when changing devices, and no support will be offered for the feature once service ends.
Before the end, the team plans a special farewell event with items such as Unite licenses and Holowear available to earn. The Game Content Guidelines for online platforms will no longer be published or maintained after service ends, and support around the use of UNITE video and images will stop. Fans of the wider franchise can also check other Pokemon releases closing out the year while the countdown runs.
UNITE arrived as an experiment in carrying Pokemon into the MOBA genre, and it leaves with nearly six years of updates, a deep roster of playable Pokemon and a dedicated competitive circuit behind it. Few free to play console and mobile titles in the genre last that long, which makes the shutdown a notable marker for live service watchers. Trainers with gem balances, unfinished collections or one last climb in mind should use the remaining months well, since March 23, 2027 is the point of no return.
When Pokemon UNITE service ends
Service ends on March 23, 2027 at 00:00 UTC for both the Nintendo Switch and mobile versions. After that point players cannot log in or take part in battles, though a Library feature preserves certain records for those who download the required data in advance.
What happens to Aeos Gems and UNITE Club memberships
Aeos Gem sales have been discontinued, but existing balances stay usable until the shutdown. New UNITE Club memberships and automatic renewals are suspended, while active memberships remain valid through their current billing cycles.
Whether competitive Pokemon UNITE continues after the shutdown
The Pokemon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 in Tokyo on March 20 and 21, 2027 is the final competitive event, held just two days before the servers close. UNITE was already dropped from the 2027 Pokemon World Championships program, so the Aeos Crown closes the competitive scene.
