A Modern Reboot of a Classic Dragon Quest Adventure
Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia teams up with SQUARE ENIX to reveal the release plan for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. The remake lands on February 5, 2026 for digital editions across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows via the Microsoft Store and Steam. A physical version follows for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5. The Steam version hits a day later, on February 6, 2026. An official trailer has also dropped, offering a first look at the rebuilt world.
How the remade Dragon Quest VII Shapes Up
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined rebuilds the 2000 classic Fragments of the Forgotten Past from the ground up. It brings a warmer, handcrafted 3DCG look along with a reworked story, battles, side quests, and modernized systems. The goal is to offer a fresh take that preserves the feel of the original while smoothing out its rough edges for today’s players. Fans will notice a more vivid world, sharper character designs, and a streamlined flow to early game goals. The game keeps the sense of discovery that made the original special, now polished for a new generation.
Editions and How to Pre-Order
DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined is open for pre-orders in several formats. The Standard Package includes the base game on all listed platforms: Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5. The Digital Deluxe Edition comes as a download and bundles the base game with extra content across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Windows. It also adds the Additional DLC Sets and offers 48-hour early access, plus the White Wolf costume for Ruff.
DLC, Extras, and How to Access Them
Post-launch, the Additional DLC Sets and other add-ons will be sold separately. Players should avoid buying duplicates. Some DLC items can be earned by simply playing and progressing in the story. The Road of Regal Wretches introduces a battle arena that unlocks as you advance. Access comes via talking to the She-Slime at the arena’s front desk. Rewards can be claimed from the game’s “Claim Special Rewards” menu.
Collector’s and Special Editions
Collector’s Edition bundles the base game for the listed platforms with the Additional DLC Sets. It adds a Steel Book Case, a Bottle Ship Figure, a Smile Slime Plushie M Slime DQ VIIR version, and the White Wolf costume. The steel case reflects the chosen platform, and minor marks may appear in manufacturing. The bottle ship figure comes assembled, while its base attachment is handled by the buyer. Bonus content is subject to change, and quantities are limited. Always check for duplicates before buying set items. Images in promotional materials are for illustration only, and an internet connection is needed to access bonuses and downloadable content. After launch, all Additional DLC Sets can be bought separately, and you can still progress in the game to earn some items.
A Closer Look at the Additional DLC Sets
The Road of Regal Wretches is a DLC pack that challenges you against famed demon kings in the Battle Arena. Defeating them can yield prized rewards, including Erdrick’s Sword. The roster of foes includes The Original Demon, Master of Destruction, and The Lord of Darkness. The Luminary’s Livery lets you dress up like heroes from Dragon Quest XI, offering several appearance changes. The Jam-Packed Swag Bag adds practical items to your stash, such as Slime gear, a Metal Slime Heart for XP boosts, and various seeds and herbs to aid your journey.
Notes on Availability and Extras
The base game is not included in some packages, with the Digital Deluxe Edition containing it instead. Early buyers can grab special bonuses, including a Hero costume and helpful items like Trodain Togs and multiple seeds. These early-purchase bonuses are tied to orders placed by a set deadline. A Steam-based timing note also exists for the early items, which must be claimed by a certain date.
Platform-Specific Bonus Items
Different storefronts offer unique slime-shield accessories when you buy the digital version. Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store players receive Red Slime Shield. PlayStation Store customers get Blue Slime Shield. Microsoft Store buyers receive Green Slime Shield, while Steam users obtain Silver Slime Shield. The physical edition does not include these digital bonuses. To qualify for bonuses, your save data must be on the same account and console used for the Dragon Quest VII Reimagined purchase.
