Fido Users Spot 5G, Rogers Has No Plans.

Some Fido customers in Canada were surprised when they spotted a 5G icon on their smartphones, hinting at the possibility of 5G service with Fido. A user on the r/FidoMobile subreddit shared their experience of seeing the 5G icon on their iPhone, and another user from iPhone in Canada also reported a similar sighting. However, when questioned about this by Rogers, the parent company of Fido, it was stated that Fido currently operates on the LTE network and there are no immediate plans to transition to a 5G network.

Despite the excitement among some Fido users, it seems that the appearance of the 5G icon may have been a result of tests conducted by Rogers on wireless sites. The company clarified that though a few Fido customers may have briefly connected to the 5G network, there are no concrete plans in place to roll out 5G services for Fido at this time.

This news may be disappointing for Fido customers who were eagerly anticipating the arrival of 5G technology. Even if Fido were to eventually offer 5G access, it does not guarantee the availability of 5G plans. Similar practices are already being implemented by other providers like Koodo and Public Mobile, where customers are placed on the 5G network but their speeds are capped based on their current plan. For instance, a Koodo customer with a 4G plan would only experience 4G speeds even when connected to the 5G network.

For now, Fido users will have to wait patiently for any updates regarding 5G availability on their network, as Rogers has stated that there are no immediate plans for 5G integration with Fido.
