A recent breach at Tile has compromised the personal data of its users, leaving names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and Tile IDs exposed. According to reports from Life360, the owner of the Bluetooth tracking company, the leaked information does not include sensitive data such as credit card numbers, account login credentials, or location data.
Chris Hulls, CEO of Life360, revealed that the breach was a result of a criminal extortion attempt, which the company has taken steps to address by enhancing its security measures and alerting law enforcement. However, hackers were able to gain access to internal tools, allowing them to process location data requests for law enforcement.
The hacker behind the breach claimed to have had access to everything and even demanded payment from Tile, although no response was received from the company. Tiles, similar to Apple's AirTags, are small tracking devices that were acquired by Life360 in 2021.
This breach serves as a reminder of the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect consumer data from unauthorized access and exploitation.
