Supercell Sends mo.co Back to Beta for Major Overhaul

Supercell has confirmed that monster hunting action RPG mo.co is going back into beta. The studio announced the move on September 24 through the official mo.co blog, saying the game is not performing as well as hoped and will need major changes to reach a wider global audience.

Quick facts

  • Game: mo.co, a monster hunting action RPG for iOS and Android
  • Developer: Supercell
  • Announcement: September 24, through the official mo.co blog
  • Change: the live game enters low maintenance while the team tests a beta rebuild
  • Next update target: before the end of 2026, with no confirmed date

Low maintenance mode explained

Under the new plan, mo.co as it exists today will run on low maintenance while development shifts toward experimental beta builds. Supercell says it will not release new weapons in the coming seasons, and seasonal passes will ship without a premium track or weapon rewards. Elite Merch will repeat cosmetics from Seasons 1 to 4, general content will be recycled from previous seasons, and premium cosmetics will be limited.

The tradeoff is pace. Instead of large chapter drops, the team plans to release experimental content that may only stay live for a limited time, with a goal of shorter waits between updates. Supercell has not locked a date for the next update but says it is aiming to launch one before the end of 2026. Players who want to follow testing can join the official Discord server, where the team says community feedback will shape the upcoming beta tests.

Player progress and account data

Supercell addressed the question of account progress directly. The studio says it has no plans to reset Cosmetics or Collector Levels, so paid and earned outfits should carry over into future versions of the game. Non-cosmetic progress is less certain. Weapons, Cores and Career Level are still under evaluation, and Supercell warns that resets may happen only if absolutely necessary, since future builds could use a very different progression loop. The team promises updates once it has details on how progress will transfer.

A rocky road since launch

The beta reset follows a difficult run for the young RPG. After years of development and a short public beta in 2023, mo.co launched worldwide through an invite-only rollout on March 18, 2025, then opened the monster hunting RPG to all players without an invite in July 2025. Supercell admitted later that early players were either dropping off within weeks or burning through content too fast, and the studio answered with the large neo mo.co revamp in May 2026, which replaced chapters with seasons and reworked gear into classes.

The numbers explain the pressure. As reported by MobileGamer.biz, AppMagic estimates put lifetime revenue near 7 million dollars from 9.2 million downloads, with the United States accounting for 27 percent of spending ahead of Japan at 12 percent. In August, Supercell openly discussed rebooting the game again and even floated closing it, while stressing that a shutdown remains an unlikely scenario. The same report notes that community manager Joao is being redeployed to a different role inside the company, since the game no longer needs a full-time community manager. Supercell, the studio also behind an upcoming Clash of Clans animated series, has a record of cancelling underperforming titles, which makes this rescue attempt stand out.

A step back for two steps forward

Supercell frames the decision as a practical one. Adding another chapter would bring more content without fixing core problems such as repetitive play, thin social systems and spread-out matchmaking, problems the team already laid out in its previous revamp announcement. A smaller beta team can test ideas with players earlier and repeat faster. In the words of the announcement, sometimes you need to take one step back before taking two steps forward. For hunters still invested, the message is patience with a payoff planned before the year closes. For lapsed players, the beta may be the real second launch to watch.

How long mo.co stays in beta

Supercell has not set an end date for the beta phase. The team says it is aiming to launch the next update before the end of 2026 and will share details on how players can take part once the build is ready.

Whether account progress resets in the beta

Cosmetics and Collector Levels are safe, with no reset planned. Weapons, Cores and Career Level remain under review and will only reset if future versions of the game require a different progression structure.

What happens to seasonal passes during maintenance

Seasonal passes will run without a premium track or weapon rewards while mo.co is in low maintenance. Elite Merch will repeat cosmetics from Seasons 1 to 4 and general content will be recycled from earlier seasons.
