PC trailer frames the October 23 launch

The official trailer walks through what PC players can expect at release, from display support to input tuning. According to the announcement, Modern Warfare 4 is built to run on a wide range of hardware while scaling up to sharp visuals and high frame rates on stronger rigs. The game configures its settings automatically based on detected hardware, and more than 800 customization options cover graphics, gameplay, input devices and the interface.

Display support stretches from 1080p through 1440p to 4K, with standard and ultrawide monitors covered. Timing matters as much as resolution here. Players who preorder digitally can preload starting October 15 at 9AM PT, and Campaign Early Access begins October 16 ahead of the full October 23 release. Readers who want the primary source can read the full breakdown on the official Call of Duty Blog alongside the trailer.

Modern Warfare 4 aims for 90 FPS on recommended specs without manual tweaking, per the PC briefing. Ray tracing is supported across Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ, adding realistic reflections, shadows and lighting for players whose cards can handle it.

Upscaling choice is generous. Players can pick from NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR Redstone, Intel XeSS 3 and Filmic SMAA T2X, matching the feature to their graphics card to trade resolution for frame rate. A built in benchmark tool runs a simulated multiplayer sequence and reports average FPS, CPU load, GPU load, ping and input latency, with a zone by zone breakdown after the run so players can tune settings with real numbers instead of guesswork.

Visibility upgrades sharpen target acquisition

Infinity Ward led the visibility work with Beenox, and several of the changes are PC specific. Enhanced FOV, available only on PC, uses physically accurate lens effects to widen the field of view near the edges of the monitor without changing the center view, which suits players who prefer a narrow FOV but still want extra peripheral awareness.

Other clarity changes include HDR10+ support that adjusts contrast and lighting against screen brightness in real time, a new sharpness slider that works with any upscaler, new Filmic SMAA T2X settings, and upgraded graphics values for screen space reflections, shadow filtering quality, occlusion and screen space lighting. Weapon visual effects are now masked at the point of aim so muzzle flash no longer hides the target, and the depth of field control is split into separate world and weapon settings.

Aiming itself is more literal than in prior entries. Bullets now travel from the barrel position rather than landing inside a random spread area, which makes both aimed and hip fire reads more intuitive, and a laser attachment can help players trace exactly where shots will land.

RICOCHET anti cheat layers server and hardware checks

Fair play gets a multilayered setup. RICOCHET Anti-Cheat combines server-side detection with hardware-based protection built on TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot integration, plus investigations and legal action against cheat sellers. Account security adds two-factor authentication and email verification on top of the in game defenses.

The timing fits a busy stretch for the anti cheat team, which recently issued a wave of RICOCHET hardware bans ahead of the MW4 launch and disrupted hundreds of cheat operations before the MW4 beta. Input precision gets its own upgrade too, with sub frame mouse polling for tighter aim alongside broad input device support.

Collateral mode brings high stakes rounds

Collateral is the new multiplayer mode aimed at Search and Destroy fans and competitive players. Teams alternate between attacking and defending two bomb sites, every player starts each match with a pistol, and cash earned during rounds buys upgrades between rounds.

The armory spans armor and perks such as the Armor Vest, Battle Hardened, Lethal Reach, Fast Hands and Ghost, equipment from flash grenades to the riot shield, plus pistol, standard issue and tier one weapon classes. Dying costs the whole loadout while banked cash carries over, and respawns, killstreaks, automatic health regeneration and custom loadouts are all switched off. The result is single life rounds where purchase decisions carry real weight, a different flavor from the main modes covered in our earlier look at the Modern Warfare 4 campaign trailer.

Preload dates and preorder bonuses

Getting ready takes a little prep. The briefing recommends installing the Xbox PC app ahead of time on any PC platform so Advanced Shader Delivery can send precompiled shaders at install and through live updates, which shortens the path from launch click to gameplay. Updates no longer force a restart during game boot, and menu flow has been streamlined to get players into matches faster.

Digital preorders unlock the preload on October 15 at 9AM PT and Campaign Early Access on October 16. Preordering also grants the Hunter Killer Operator Pack and the Gilded Pearl Camo Pack, while the Vault Edition adds the Hostile Alliance and Special Forces Operator Packs, the Signature Weapon Collection, one season of BlackCell and a DMZ deployment bonus. Shoppers can compare editions on the official Modern Warfare 4 preorder page before launch day.

When Modern Warfare 4 PC preload and Campaign Early Access start

Digital preorders can preload on PC from October 15 at 9AM PT, and Campaign Early Access begins October 16. The full game launches worldwide on October 23 across the Xbox PC app, Battle.net and Steam.

Which upscaling options Modern Warfare 4 supports on PC

The PC version supports NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR Redstone, Intel XeSS 3 and Filmic SMAA T2X. A built in benchmark tool reports average FPS, CPU, GPU, ping and input latency so players can match the upscaler to their card.

How the Collateral mode economy works

Every player starts with a pistol and earns cash for eliminations and objective play, then spends it between rounds on armor, perks, equipment and weapons. Death wipes the loadout but spares banked cash, and respawns, killstreaks, health regeneration and custom loadouts are disabled.
