The iPhone X and original AirPods have now been classified as ‘Vintage’ Apple products, signaling that they are nearing the end of their support lifespan. Apple typically designates products as vintage after they have been off the market for more than five years but less than seven.
The iPhone X, which was released in September 2017, marked a significant shift for Apple with its all-screen design and OLED display. While it may be nearing the end of its official support period, users can still expect to receive official replacement parts for up to two years. Additionally, Apple is known for providing security updates for older devices, as evidenced by the iPhone 6s receiving a security update as recent as March 2024.
Surprisingly, the original version of Apple’s AirPods is also receiving the Vintage label. Despite their age, these Gen 1 AirPods will continue to function, and Apple will offer support for repairs for at least two more years. The first HomePod, which was announced in 2017 and released in early 2018, will also be joining the Vintage category.
Overall, while these products may be considered vintage by Apple's standards, users can still expect some level of support and functionality for the foreseeable future.
