ArcheAge Chronicles Drops Gender Locks, Adds Gladius

XLGAMES is removing gender locked classes from ArcheAge Chronicles. The plan headlines a new producer letter that lays out launch fixes and post launch content ahead of the Steam Early Access release on November 3 in North America, with a female Warrior and a new Gladius weapon arriving in the first December update.

Quick facts: Release date: November 3, 2026 in North America (November 4 at 8 AM KST). Platform: PC via Steam Early Access. Developer and publisher: XLGAMES. Price: 29.99 dollars. First December update: female Warrior plus Gladius weapon for the Warrior class. New servers: Brazil and Singapore.

Gender locks are going away, starting with the Warrior

Gender locked classes have been the most common piece of community feedback since the September network test, according to the producer letter on Steam. Producer Ham says the team has been working on a fix ever since, and development is now officially underway. Gender selection at character creation will roll out one class at a time, and the stated goal is to remove gender locks from every class by full release.

The Warrior goes first. The female Warrior is planned for the first update in December, with more classes to follow in later updates throughout the Early Access period. The letter includes work in progress footage of the female Warrior model with the note that the final version may differ, so players should treat the preview as a direction rather than a finished asset.

The change answers one of the longest running requests from fans of the original ArcheAge, where class and gender pairings were fixed. By undoing those restrictions class by class, XLGAMES is betting that broader character choice will keep role players and fashion focused players invested through the Early Access months. Our coverage of the Steam Early Access launch has the full rundown on date, price and launch regions for players catching up.

A third weapon for every class, starting with the Gladius

The December update carries a second headline feature. Every class is set to receive a third weapon type, again delivered one class at a time. The Warrior is first in line here as well, with the Gladius joining its arsenal in the first update.

Producer Ham notes that the weapon work is further along than the gender work, and the letter shows preview images of the Gladius rather than describing it in text. New weapons matter more than they sound in a game built around action combat and build choice, since each weapon reshapes attack patterns and skill options. Players who main the Warrior get first access, while other classes wait their turn in the updates after December.

Launch build fixes for stability and display

Beyond the December roadmap, the letter details what has already changed for launch based on Steam Next Fest demo feedback. The Early Access build adds shader compilation screens to stop black screen issues, alongside improved multi monitor support and fullscreen switching. If upscaling or frame generation fails on a given system, the game now switches the setting automatically and tells the player.

Crash and access fixes round out the list. The team patched disconnects and login errors from the demo, fixed failures to launch alongside certain antivirus software, and reworked region selection so the game picks a region automatically based on location with clearer labels on the server screen. The full client is available through the ArcheAge Chronicles Steam page ahead of the November 3 unlock.

Servers, parties and combat balance

Server coverage grows at launch with dedicated servers in Brazil and Singapore joining the existing regions. Party play gets more flexible too, with parties now staying together across Peace and Conflict Channels, invites working across both, and a direct jump to the party leader channel. Dungeon and instance progress now survives a disconnect in every Early Access region, and some solo only dungeon sections can now be played in a party.

Combat balance passes touch several weapon types. Wall of Fire damage is reduced while bosses now resist max HP scaling skills more strongly, Wavesword attack power and growth scaling are rebalanced, and ladder climbing no longer drains stamina. Rebindable UI shortcuts arrive as well, which should please PC players who remap everything on day one.

Taken together, the letter paints Early Access as a genuine work in progress rather than a soft launch. Gender options, weapon variety, server reach and quality of life systems all expand after day one, which fits the pattern of recent MMORPG launches that treat the first months as a live tuning phase.
