Aniimo Launches on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S

Pawprint Studio has released Aniimo, its free-to-play creature-catching open-world RPG, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the official Aniimo website. The game is available now on console and PC, with mobile versions for iOS and Android set for September 23 and a Mac version planned for a later date.

Aniimo launches on console and PC

Aniimo puts players in the role of Pathfinders, explorers who collect and merge with magical creatures called Aniimo across the open world of Idyll. The launch covers PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and the game is free to play on every platform. Players who prefer to buy outside storefronts can also download it straight from the official Aniimo website. A mobile release on iOS and Android follows next week on September 23, while a Mac version is confirmed for a later date.

Pawprint Studio acts as both developer and publisher, with backing from FunPlus. Janson Zhang, Lead Game Designer at Pawprint Studio, said the team worked diligently to bring the dreams of the studio and its players to reality, and thanked Pathfinders around the globe for their support now that the world of Aniimo is ready to discover.

Over 200 Aniimo to discover at launch

At launch, players can discover, meet, and collect more than 200 Aniimo. Each creature comes in different rarities and forms, and encounters depend on systems such as changing weather and distinct biomes, so exploration stays rewarding across every region of Idyll.

Among the newest additions are Squarrel and its next-stage form, Squashel. Squarrel is an energetic squirrel-like Aniimo that rolls down hillsides while clutching its tail, and it fights with fast-paced combo mechanics built around powerful tail strikes. Another fresh face is Sparkelf, described as a lively and enthusiastic companion. Fans of the creature-collecting genre have plenty to look forward to this year, including the Yo-kai Watch 2 remake heading to PS5, Switch 2, and PC, and Aniimo now gives them a free-to-play open world to hunt in as well.

Twining lets you become your Aniimo

The signature mechanic is Twining, a merging system that lets a Pathfinder take direct control of any Aniimo on their roster. Each creature grants new abilities for combat, traversal, and puzzle solving, so switching forms changes how you fight, move, and interact with the world. Playing through the eyes of each Aniimo opens new routes and solutions, which makes building a wide roster a practical goal rather than simple collection.

Explore Idyll and build your Homeland

Idyll is built as an interactive open world with multiple areas and ecosystems where Aniimo live and grow. Quests, activities, puzzles, and mysteries are spread across the map, giving solo explorers a steady flow of goals between creature hunts.

For downtime, the Homeland system gives every Pathfinder a personal slice of Idyll. You can design and decorate your home to taste, farm and harvest crops alongside your Aniimo, and treat your creatures to fun activities while working together toward shared goals. It is a full housing and life sim layer inside the RPG, aimed at players who want a home base between adventures.

Co-op tools and Egg Heist PvP

Multiplayer runs through simple in-world tools. The Horn calls for help from friends and strangers in the open world, the Flute invites others to your location or reveals players nearby, and the Come to Me ability instantly gathers your allies at your side. You can also follow another player and let them lead you around Idyll, which makes casual group play easy without menus or lobbies.

Competitive players get Egg Heist, a PvP mode where teams face off to earn valuable resources and escape with them. It adds a risk and reward chase on top of the co-op structure and gives endgame groups a reason to queue together.
