The world’s No.1 MO Action RPG Dragon Nest SEA may have entered its third year of game service but its strong dedication to the community means players are constantly given new content to look forward to. This February 26, 2015, players welcomed the much-anticipated eighth character in the game – Lancea.

The two sisters Lancea and Eltia are daughters of a Lord from the suburban lands. Despite their young ages, the two girls have received strict training from the Brotherhood of Steel, a secret mercenary organization formed by one of the original Six Heroes who defeated the Black Dragon 50 years ago. The sisters received a mission from the Brotherhood which brought them to Mana Ridge, where a strange twist of events would lead the sisters on an epic adventure in their fight for peace and justice in Lagendia.
Despite her mega-watt sunshine smile and cheerful disposition, Lancea is well-versed in combat, due to years of rigorous training regime from the Brotherhood. Her righteous nature drives her to punish her enemies with her amazing spearmanship and she is relentless in her pursuit for justice. Eltia, her sister is frail in health, and remains in town while Lancea battles in the frontline. With the wise and cool-headed Eltia guiding Lancea along in her journey and helping the latter to grow and learn new skills, these two make for a formidable duo indeed!

As Lancea levels to 15, players can progress her into her first available job specialization – a Piercer with powerful melee attacks. The Piercer’s signature battle skill is the Erratic Power toggle skill, which increases both Lancea’s speed and damage output when activated. While this skill is definitely powerful, it does have a drawback – a lot of energy is required to maintain this ability and Lancea will continuously accumulate Fatigue as long as this skill is in use. When the character hits maximum Fatigue, Lancea will become temporarily lethargic and suffer a great reduction in movement and attack speed. To truly master the Lancea class, players will need to learn to use this skill wisely and efficiently.

Come level 45, players can further fine-tune the Piercer’s specialties using the second job specialization classes – Flurry or Sting Breezer. The Flurry’s fight style is an art to behold. Word has it that her combat skills resemble the wind – silent, persistent and relentless as she goes up-close to slash her enemies into submission. Sting Breezer, on the other hand, enhances her weapon with magic so enemies do not stand a chance against her, even if her spear does not touch them physically.

“Players have been asking for the new Lancea class for some months now, so we are very excited to heed their voices,” said Mr Addison Kang, CEO of Cherry Credits Pte Ltd. “The arrival of Lancea gives current players a comprehensive glimpse of the aftermath of the historical fight between the original Six Heroes and the Black Dragon, while new players can continue to enjoy the in-depth lore of the game. Afterall, Dragon Nest SEA is not just a game; it’s an adventure for all our players to immerse themselves in!”

Players can start playing the new class via the in-game update on February 26, 2015.

Ubisoft has announced the release of Monkey King Escape, a brand new game inspired by the famous Chinese legend of the Monkey King. Developed exclusively for the Chinese market by a small team of twenty talented developers at Ubisoft Chengdu, Monkey King Escape was a huge success when it was released for Android on 21st August 2014. The game is available in two hundred Android stores in China, and has already been downloaded 2 million times. Monkey King Escape, a free-to-play ‘endless running’ game is now available on the App Store and Google Play.

The Legend of the Monkey King, an immortal monkey born from the coupling of Heaven and the Earth

The hero of a book by Wu Cheng’en called “Journey To The West”, the Monkey King was one of the protectors of the monk Sanzang during his trip to India to return the sacred writings of Buddha to China. The “King of Monkeys” or “Monkey King” is one the most famous characters in Chinese literature and an emblematic figure of local culture. Modern Asian and Chinese pop culture contains many references to the Monkey King, including Dragon Ball Z and the eponymous high-budget movie adaptation released in China on 31st January 2014.

“In China, the Monkey King is on the same level as a superhero, bursting with positive energy, and lots of children grow up reading about his adventures,” said Chen Yi Feng, producer at Ubisoft Chengdu. “We’re proud to bring this popular hero and his adventures to a wider public.”

The first mobile title from Ubisoft Chengdu designed for Chinese players

To launch the game as successfully as possible in such a vast territory as China, Ubisoft Chengdu joined forces with Idreamsky, China’s biggest independent mobile game publisher. Idreamsky lent its expertise to support the studio during the game’s development, making sure it would meet the expectations of Chinese players, and prepared a large-scale marketing plan to support the game’s release on iOS (organising events on Chinese university campuses, online promotion, etc.)

Monkey King Escape is the perfect illustration of our desire to offer an ever-growing cross-section of players a varied game experience. We’ve created a new brand for mobile terminals, inspired by a popular local legend, aimed at the Chinese market”, said Jean-Michel Detoc, Manager of Ubisoft’s Mobile Division. “We’re really proud, because this is the first time that Ubisoft has created a game specifically for the Chinese market, with release in just in that territory before worldwide rollout a few months later.”

Monkey King Escape, an ‘endless running’ game based in the mythical world of the Chinese novel

The game’s unique setting and visual atmosphere, reflecting the traditional art of the fable, will plunge players in the world of the Monkey King. Monkey King Escape allows players to run, fly and jump through fascinating, colourful environments. To offer a brand new experience in the runner genre, the teams at Ubisoft Chengdu have added innovative features such as QTE (quick time events) when fighting bosses in rapid combat scenes, and a system whereby the hero can change into an animal and use its special powers to increase their skills. For example, rabbits are the symbol of prosperity in Chinese culture – changing into a rabbit in the game allows players to multiply their earnings. The developers were also careful to create a universe and story that remain faithful to the legend, adding supporting characters with special powers.

The Forgotten Realms will soon be overrun with the Elemental Evil cults when Neverwinter: Elemental Evil launches for PC on March 17.

Along with the new Paladin playable class and level cap increase, Neverwinter: Elemental Evil’s storyline will see the return of Minsc & Boo – the ranger and miniature giant space hamster from the Baldur’s Gate series. The fan-favorite duo will be assisting players on their journey to discover the true nature of the Elemental Evil cults.

With the largest update to-date, Neverwinter: Elemental Evil brings a new playable class – the Paladin – that increases the playable classes count to eight. Players looking to create Paladins will be able to choose a focus on healing or tanking builds. The new module will also increase the level cap from 60 to 70, which brings a new set of quests, feats and slottable class feature powers.

Neverwinter: Elemental Evil also continues the partnership with Wizards of the Coast as Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment maintain a one-to-one release cadence with the official Dungeons & Dragons storylines. Neverwinter players will journey through new adventures as they fight the newest threat to Protector’s Enclave – the Cults of Elemental Evil – which are also present in the upcoming tabletop adventure release, Princes of the Apocalypse.

Neverwinter is a free-to-play action MMORPG that features fast-paced combat and epic dungeons. Players explore the vast city of Neverwinter and its surrounding countryside, learning the vivid history of the iconic city and battling its many enemies. Neverwinter is currently available on PC and will be launching for Xbox One, available free-to-play with Gold in early 2015.

The world’s largest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament will be held in Germany this year thanks to a partnership between LANXESS arena and ESL, the world’s largest esports company. Set to take place in Europe’s second largest multifunctional arena, usually home to ice hockey giants, “Kölner Haie”, the event will boast competition between sixteen of the world’s best First Person Shooter (FPS) teams in a 15,000-seater stadium on August 22nd and 23rd.

“We had the honour of hosting two US$250,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments last year as part of the ESL One esports tour, and this year we plan on stepping it up,” said Ulrich Schulze, Managing Director of Pro Gaming at ESL. “ESL One Cologne is going to be the largest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event in the world. Taking place in the biggest indoor arena in Germany, we’re sure it’ll be a massive hit for fans from all over.”

ESL One Cologne marks ESL’s fourth US$250,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament in just over two years. While previous ESL One events featured a community funded prize pool, the Cologne prize money is to be provided by ESL directly. Ulrich Schulze noted that this was proof of the company’s dedication to the game’s esports development, saying that 2015 would see the company do even more with the game than ever before.

“We’re very excited to be the first German arena to host an event of this kind and are convinced that Cologne, as both a tourist destination and as a technology capital, is perfectly suited,” said Stefan Löcher, CEO of ARENA Management GmbH. “In co-operation with our partner, ESL, we’re looking forward to host some of the world’s best esports players and their fans come August 2015.”

Sixteen teams will make their way to Cologne this August to battle it out for US$250,000 in prize money. Information on tournament structure and the qualification process will be released at a later date.

Ticket sales for ESL One Cologne in the LANXESS arena (August 22nd and 23rd) begin on February 23rd. Tickets will be available on Eventim and all associated ticketing agencies in Germany.

Dying Light Review http://gamehaunt.com/dying-light-review/ http://gamehaunt.com/dying-light-review/#comments Mon, 02 Feb 2015 06:08:31 +0000 http://gamehaunt.com/?p=7635 Techland, a game developer in Poland most known for bringing Call of Juarez and Dead Island, has recently released a new action survival video game offering another great zombie experience. Techland, a game developer in Poland most known for bringing Call of Juarez and Dead Island, has recently released a new action survival video game offering another great zombie experience. Dying Light is a first-person, zombie apocalypse-themed game set in a dangerous and enormous open world. It has competently combined some of the elements of Far Cry, Dead Island and Mirror’s Edge, making the feel of playing slightly familiar.

In fact, its storyline is just like the typical wherein the players act as the secret agent sent by a relief group to go in an isolated city full of infected enemies. The presence of the government’s misconducts also made the game predictable. Nevertheless, it was still able to make the game more challenging and interesting.

04

In spite of the fact that most of its qualities are similar to the aforementioned games, it became unique because of the parkour element. The parkour-style movement turned out to be the best feature of Dying Light as it enables the players to jump across huge spaces and obstacles, and climb from one place to another almost effortlessly. The players can use this element anytime – either for escaping the zombies, hunting them, attacking the enemies from above, or for simply exploring the fictional city.

It made playing the game more fun and exciting because the players can freely move around anywhere. However, because of the parkour element, Dying Light can be played somewhat in “safe mode” since the zombies cannot move very fast. If used frequently, the game would seem to be all about avoiding the zombies instead of confronting and killing them.

01

Another remarkable feature of this action survival video game is the day and night cycle. During the day, the players need to wander around the infected city to search for, and gather supplies, and make weapons necessary for survival in the coming night. It may sound not so difficult, but it is also not that easy to obtain the things one will need for subsistence. To be able to acquire the best supplies, the players will have to fight and stop the other human beings who are also desperate to live through the night, from getting away the things they need.

The players can also save the remaining survivors during the day, as well as set up various traps in preparation for the coming night. The infected will not be a threat anyway since not only they are easily detected, but they also are very listless and slow during this time. Killing them will be effortless.

When the night falls, the infected then become extremely dangerous because their strength and number grows. Not only that, they become more aggressive as well. Nighttime is very challenging and terrifying in Dying Light. As the night deepens, the meaning of the game’s slogan “Good Night. Good Luck.” echoes loudly while the players are struggling to survive.

02

Besides the infected ones or the zombies, there are more deadly creatures that are excited to hunt. The players must do their best to save their lives by defeating each and every enemy they will encounter. There are many ways to kill them such as confronting them face to face using various weapons, striking them down from above, or distracting them and using traps. Slowing down the infected using ultraviolet lights will also be of great help.

The night is long so slaying monsters all night is obviously not practical. The players can also make use of the darkness and the fog to remain unseen and stay out of the enemies’ way, while getting back to the safe zones. Playing at nighttime turns to be not just all about knocking out zombies, but more like a panicky hide-and-seek game, while trying hard to persist until the morning.

03

In fighting the zombies, the players can use different melee weapons such as axes, clubs, knives, spears, hammers and other odd tools in combat. They can also craft their own weapons. Striking down the infected is brutal and sadistic. It involves smashing, breaking them into pieces, cutting their limbs, and many other ways in which fighting is more of a direct contact experience.

The players can also use modern firearms like shotguns, machine guns, rifles, and pistols. That would of course be a great advantage because they are much more powerful. However, using firearms will create noise that can surely attract other enemies, and that’s the least that any player would want to happen. Most importantly, the players’ main weapon in this vast world of madness and destruction must be their alertness and ability to move and think quickly.

In Dying Light, players can cooperate with each other in times of extreme situations. In this mode, up to four players acting as the survivors can unite to defeat the predacious creatures and the other infected. They could team up with their friends or with some strangers; either way will definitely make playing more rewarding and sustaining. The small trials that the game offers during this mode do not only encourage cooperation but may also provoke competitions.

The game also has an asymmetric multiplayer feature wherein the so-called Night Hunter, which is a human-controlled very powerful creature, could surprisingly invade the players. This feature is readily available in Dying Light. However, there is a bonus offered to the players who already placed their orders of the game even before it was available for purchase. It is the “Be the zombie” feature that allows the players to act as the zombie or mutated hunter and invade the worlds of other players.

05

Dying Light, although a new release, is becoming a success not only because of its fantastic gameplay but also because of its impressive graphics and sound effects. The sound is very effective at creating a really terrifying and dangerous atmosphere. When a group of zombies is approaching, the player could hear it and feel the impending threat right away. Techland did well in capturing the essence of the game and making it so engaging.

The graphics are also greatly drawn and the very colorful background adds up to the intensity and thrill of the game. The illustrations, the well-attended details and the animation are well thought-out and certainly entice the players to get more engrossed in the story.

Overall, although most of Dying Light’s elements are a good combination from other games, all its features went perfectly together with its additional unique elements which are the parkour-style movement and the day and night cycle. Its gameplay, together with the splendid visual and sound effects, make Dying Light worth having and playing. It is an addictive game any player will surely enjoy.

Sony Online Entertainment is currently developing another free-to-play online game called H1Z1 and I was fortunate enough to give it a try. You can buy the Early Access to H1Z1 Alpha version on Steam. The game was released in January this year, and SOE is hoping that H1Z1 will catch the fancy of many online gamers. The game is still in the development stages and the developers are open to feedback from online gamers who have already played the game.

H1Z1

In the game you will face different types of adversaries such as man-eating zombies, hostile people, and flesh eating animals. This is a survival type of game and you will need to defend yourself against your opponents and kill them in order to survive.

The zombies look scary and some of them also move more quickly than the stereotype. There’s a few moments that you will see them in groups, and they will try to chase you, so you need to be stealthy because they can kill you if caught as a group. There are many types of animals found in the game, and some of them are dangerous like wolves and bears, while others, such as small birds, are harmless.

Your main opponents in the game are other online players who will try to hunt you down. There are many towns and cities used in the game, and the landscape is captivating, especially during the day.

The visuals are great because of the use of Forgelight engine. The rays of the sun are realistic as they are, but they are still trying to enhance the lighting effects and shadows. The animations and movements are smooth.

Each time you start the game, you will randomly appear in different locations. Your first mission is to find a safe place where you can feed and defend yourself. At first, you will only have a few items with you such as a flare and a flashlight to guide you when roaming dark places.

At this time, you don’t have weapons to kill enemies or food provisions needed to survive. You need to keep running, so that the other gamers won’t kill you. Look for places that were once inhabited by people because there is a possibility that you will find valuable supplies there.

In order to survive in H1Z1, you need to loot different kinds of things which can be found by searching for them or by killing your enemies and taking their supplies. Here are some tips:

  • You can acquire items by searching for them in floors, desks, chests, dressers and abandoned cars.
  • You can loot items by killing zombies.
  • You can loot items by killing other online gamers.
  • You can steal the items of other online gamers by threatening them using your weapons.
  • You can acquire meat by killing animals.
  • You can create unique items by using the hidden recipes that you find.
  • You can acquire wood from trees.
  • You can acquire sticks and berries from plants.
  • You can get water from wells and streams.

The game has some similarities in real life. If you can’t eat by acquiring meat from slaughtered animals, you will die from starvation. You have to cook the meat first before you can eat it.

Your backpack is one of the most important things that you need to create when you first play the game because this is where you will store most of the items that you collected. To create a backpack, you must find six items made of cloth like caps or shirts.

The sticks can be made into arrows which you can use if you have a bow. In order to make a bow, use your clothes and the sticks that you acquire from the plants. You can eat the berries gathered from plants to increase your energy level.

Your hydration and energy will eventually drain when you run; and if your energy level drops below zero, your health will start to decrease. When your health drops below zero, you will die, and you will drop all the things that you have acquired. These things can be picked by other gamers as well and they can use them.

Overall, the game is engrossing and provides hours of gaming fun. Unlike other zombie survival games and probably one of the most unique things about H1Z1 is that it is the product of collaborative efforts. The developers and gamers are working together to help improve the game. It’s no surprise that the final release of this game will be a big hit. The game is still in the Early Access Alpha version with significant updates several times a week, so expect a lot of improvements to come.
